The vision is to create a safe space, free from worldly agendas and pressures, grounded in Biblical values, stimulating and inspiring, where your children can thrive.
The goal is to create/follow a curriculum and aim to get a certification/qualification by the end of the year/term, as appropriate by age.
I have been given the use of an excellent venue in Leatherhead, sponsored by Disciples Church. Its a spacious and comfortable venue that allows for parents to have a cup of tea and chat while the children are in class. We have comfortable seating, heating, bathrooms and a kitchen.
I recognise the sacrifice being made by homeschooling parents. The reasons are not always the same but it is always hard work and full of obstacles. My desire is to partner with the parents in order to lighten the load and overcome the obstacles.
I've decided to use Google Classroom to manage the homeschooling tuition, as this is free, easy to use, private, safe, and compatible with any device. I'm confident it will be a great tool.
The students will be invited to each relevant class and be given assignments. These assignments can be completed when we come together on Wednesday or anytime from home if the student can't attend.
The parent will have the ability to monitor the progress of the learning and receive notification. The students can communicate with each other and the teacher via the chat feature.
Here is a short introduction to Google Classroom and a tutorial for students to see how to find their way around.
Every student should have access to a laptop in order to use the learning system and perform some of the required tasks. If the student does not have a laptop they can use and the parent is not able to afford one we would be very happy to provide a refurbished laptop or refurbish an old laptop the parent may have, via our Laptop Refurbishment Initiative.
Please let us know if you require a laptop, help refurbishing or advice on buying one.
Tuition will be offered to children from 6 to 16, Key Stages 1 to 4
This is a free service (for as long as it is only for 2h per week), but it's heavily dependent on the parent's collaboration to develop the curriculums, set the goals and support their children through the process. I'm partnering with the parents but I'm not taking over from them. This includes the classroom space, children must be accompanied by their parent or guardian during the lessons.
I will commit myself to:
If you don’t know me personally I invite you to not only speak to me but also with other parents that have used the service, before making a decision. You can also check out my recommendations on LinkedIn.
From the parents, I simply ask that you communicate your feedback, expectations and intentions as clearly as you can. This way you will allow me to make the necessary adjustments.
Concerning running costs, I only intend to ask the parents to contribute to costs that are directly related to them (subscriptions, materials, etc.). For costs related to the project or service, I will first seek to be financed by Disciples Church or a local business before I address the parents.
If you are interested or if you have any questions please get in touch.
